Proteomics can briefly be described as the study of the proteome or set of proteins in a cell, which determines their cell functions. This area of research is growing fast in the post-genomics era, its main aim being the identification of levels of protein expression, the study of protein interaction and the determination of possible post-translational modification.
The area of Proteomics at the CRG/UPF focuses on the application of mass spectrometry for protein identification.
