Mechanism of Golgi biogenesis

In the mammalian cells, the pericentriolar Golgi apparatus is fragmented during the early stages of mitosis and then reassembled prior to cytokinesis. We have reconstituted the cell cycle specific Golgi fragmentation and assembly in vitro to identify components involved in these processes. These assays will help reveal the mechanisms of Golgi membrane biogenesis and their partitioning into daughter cells during the cell cycle.
